Reusing Frames: a major turning point
A major turning point many years ago was making work to fit existing frames out of necessity.
This inverts the normal relationship in which the frame is built to the needs of the work. This conceptual complication also makes the frame visually active as it is either too small or too big for the work, no longer neutral or invisible therefore rendering the whole thing “an object” made of photo paper, wood, acrylic etc.
The rectangular frames in this show were made for other work that was sitting in storage, and I manually mounted most of the new works here. They sorta fit! 😹 Which makes me so happy! I got to jam them in myself and make hard decisions and find surprises along the way. Like old times! These works feel very alive to me for this reason. Thank you to Ziello Frames for letting me hang out at the shop for so many days!
