Shaped Frames

Shaped frames, which I consider to be “violent interventions” of frame cutting into larger works, clamping down on the edges, forcing the work to conform to frame, the opposite of the normal “work” to frame relationship, one of protection. Each of these 3 have at least one moment of the original edge of the paper, that is not entrapped by the frame.

Over the years, often due to my own limitations or miscommunications, my works which put the paper and the frame in an active dialogue have been reproduced without a frame. Frankly, this happened often because there was no budget and I only had studio archive photos.

I was hoping this more aggressive shaping would back inform the way all the rectangular ones are seen as well, so they can all be understood as integral to the work as a whole.
