Puzzles
Another major personal turning point : Several of the works up at @vandorenwaxter right now are “puzzles.” For years i would always buy the largest roll of paper available and then just cut down if I wanted to work smaller. In a moment of clarity in 2018 I put all those small pieces back together like a puzzle and I saw my whole entire art practice differently. Soon after I moved home and studio on short notice and that puzzle never was seen again, presumably it was left on a sidewalk by movers and went into a landfill. Recently I worked in a similar way to fill the void and see if I could learn anything new. This first video is the about how the cuts are made by the radius of my arm swinging with a razor blade and the other holds the paper. It’s quite romantic in my mind, this relationship of a specific body interacting with the fragile paper.
